Ace S

Decorative Objects

Belgian designer Michaël Verheyden uses pure, elemental materials and basic geometry to create remarkable objects of beauty. The ACE bowl celebrates the luxury of marble. Get in touch with our sales team to find out which stones are currently available; each one is utterly unique due to the natural variations in the colour and veining of the stone. The bowl is available in two sizes, each a poetic and profoundly elemental piece.

Design Story

Michaël Verheyden

Michaël Verheyden

Passionate about rock music, but probably also inspired by silence, Verheyden creates fashion accessories and home objects. After graduating as an Industrial Designer in 2001 and before starting his own design label, he worked together with, among others, fashion designer Raf Simons. Raf Simons coached Michaël Verheyden's graduation project and commissioned him to make a series of leather bags for his summer 2003 collection.

In 2002 he started his own company producing leather bags and accessories, hence his mastering of this material. He prefers noble and durable materials that feel natural and age beautifully. In 2009, he received the 'Henry Vande Velde Young Talent Award', an important gesture of recognition from the Flemish design industry. Apart from his quest for good quality fabrics, Michaël Verheyden puts a lot of time into finding new ways to construct things. In the same year, Verheyden broadened his scope to encompass home accessories and furniture. He works together with his wife, Saartje Vereecke (born in 1975 in Leopoldsburg, Belgium), out of a brick home-studio in Genk. Vereecke trained as a painter, and worked in the textile industry before joining the studio.

Verheyden’s aesthetic embraces simple geometric forms, minimalist lines, expert craftsmanship, and rich, quality materials—leathers, linen, bronze, brass, marble, and the like. His home collection ranges from candlesticks and vessels to seating and objets d’art. He makes many of his design prototypes himself and works closely with expert craftspeople for the final production. All objects are finished, assembled, and packaged in the Verheyden workshop. Also, notably, bespoke leather baskets are hand sewn in-house.

AVENUE ROAD carries a curated assortment of Michael Verheyden pieces.
