Claudia Moreira Salles
Every tiny detail in each of the designer’s pieces is the result of lots of work during their conception – the method she learned while surrounded by rulers and compasses at the Industrial Design College (ESDI) IN 1978, IN Rio De Janeiro.
Her love of wood started early, during her first internship at the Museum of Modern Art, where she worked creating furniture for a school library. ‘That was when I got to know wood and it’s handicraft better. I fell in love, got deeply involved and never stopped drawing’ says the designer.
Right after she graduated, Claudia left for Sao Paulo, where she met designer Fulvio Nanni. For several years she designed for Nanni Moveleira – one of the first furniture companies that promoted independent designers in the 1980’s. It was Fulvio who introduced her to Etel Carmona in the late 1980’s.
The Duetto bench was the first piece commissioned to Claudia Moreira Salles by a client, and the first of the designer’s creations to be manufactured by Etel, in 1991. This partnership – consistent, authentic and permeated with great rapport – has lasted for more than 25 years.
