Tortoise Vase S

Vases

Through its centuries-old commitment to traditional craftsmanship and its continued collaboration with world-class artists and designers, Nymphenburg has secured its position as one of the world’s finest creators of porcelain, famed for its hand-painted and hand-decorated dinnerware and decorative accessories. With the TORTOISE collection of tableware, American designer Ted Muehling celebrates his fascination with the tortoise, executing razor-thin bisque porcelain pieces with matte outsides and glazed interiors. The organic natural texture of the tortoise’s faceted armour shell is abstracted and reinterpreted for this exquisitely unique and beautiful dining set.

Design Story

Ted Muehling

Ted Muehling

Ted Muehling was born in Passaic, New Jersey, in 1953 and studied industrial design at the Pratt Institute in New York. Muehling has been designing jewellery and objects inspired by natural shapes since 1976.

"I try to restrict my vocabulary of shape by abstracting forms from nature and transforming them with the aim of creating objects that function just as well as they look. My designs trace the invisible shapes that exist between nature and our perception of it." Ted Muehling has received many awards, including the Chrysler Design Award and the America Fashion Coty Award. His works may be found in many private and public collections.

AVENUE ROAD carries a curated assortment of Ted Muehling pieces.
