Volute Bowl

Decorative Objects

Nymphenburg has secured its position as one of the world’s finest creators of porcelain, famed for its hand-painted and hand-decorated dinnerware and decorative accessories. With the SHELL collection of tableware, American designer Ted Muehling explores his fascination with the rococo period, which valued delicately curved lines, spiraled ornaments, and organic shapes. The resultant maritime collection of vases, lanterns, and bowls celebrates snail shells and seashells, with celadon and pink painting and an emphasis on the interplay between glazed and bisque porcelain.

Design Story

Ted Muehling

Ted Muehling

Ted Muehling was born in Passaic, New Jersey, in 1953 and studied industrial design at the Pratt Institute in New York. Muehling has been designing jewellery and objects inspired by natural shapes since 1976.

"I try to restrict my vocabulary of shape by abstracting forms from nature and transforming them with the aim of creating objects that function just as well as they look. My designs trace the invisible shapes that exist between nature and our perception of it." Ted Muehling has received many awards, including the Chrysler Design Award and the America Fashion Coty Award. His works may be found in many private and public collections.

AVENUE ROAD carries a curated assortment of Ted Muehling pieces.
