Shiroku Kuramata, born in Tokyo, graduated from the Department of Interior Design at the Kuwasawa Design Institute in 1956. He established Kuramata Design Office in 1965, designing furniture, products, and commercial facilities. With a solo exhibition in Paris in 1989 he gained international recognition, and received awards for his work.
