Product Care
The pieces we offer are meant to last a lifetime, hopefully lifetimes, but longevity has a lot to do with how well they are cared for.
These are general guidelines based on material types but your unique product may have unique requirements. All maintenance methods mentioned below should be performed with caution and are at your own discretion as we can't guarantee results. When in doubt consult a professional or contact us as we may be able to provide the service or connect you with someone who can help.

Glass
CLEAR GLASS
Clear Glass can be cleaned with a regular window or glass cleaner using a micro-fibre cloth. Spray a small amount on the cloth and polish until dry.
General Reminders
- Sharply polished edges are fragile and can be damaged even with a slight impact.
- Glass objects are sensitive to extreme temperature variations. If objects are placed near air conditioning vents, be sure to not simultaneously expose to direct sunlight.
CRYSTAL
Crystal is preferably hand-washed. The glass should be cleaned with a small amount of detergent in warm water using a soft sponge. Wash the glasses one by one to avoid them bumping into each other. For drying, use a soft cotton or linen towel.
Alternatively, dishwashers are suitable but bear in mind that mouth-blown crystal can be dissolved by water and detergent with even a small degree. If available, use the special glass program and add only the minimum amount of detergent. When completed, open the door immediately to allow the aggressive steam to escape, otherwise, it can result in irreparable cloudiness on the surface.
SANDED GLASS
Sanded Glass requires special maintenance. We recommend protecting the surface with olive or paraffin oil once a year to retain its original, uniform shine and colour.
Using your palms, rub a nut-sized amount of oil onto the sanded surface and wipe away the remainder with a micro-fibre cloth.
Then take a new micro-fibre cloth and rub again until no oil is remaining.
Finally, degrease the non-sanded areas with window or glass cleaner while completely avoiding the sanded area.
General Reminders
- Sharply polished edges are fragile and can be damaged even with a slight impact.
- Glass objects are sensitive to extreme temperature variations. If objects are placed near air conditioning vents, be sure to not simultaneously expose to direct sunlight.
MUSLIN CRYSTAL
Muslin Crystal is preferred to be hand-washed but special care must be taken. The cup should in no way be stuffed with a towel. Despite its elasticity, this can lead to breakage. When washing or drying, both hands should be on the cup or the foot to avoid putting pressure on the stem.
Alternatively, when using a dishwasher, a basket is preferred to separate glasses from each other to prevent breakage from mechanical strain.
Stone
MARBLE
Please clean using a cotton cloth with diluted lukewarm water and alcohol.
General Reminders
- Avoid contact with extreme heat sources.
- If marble is stained with acid (ie. lemon juice, wine, vinegar), it will eat into the marble and make the stain matte. Ensure to clean the stain quickly with a slightly moist cloth.
- Do not leave steel wool or iron under any circumstances as it can develop rust or other stains on the surface.
- Darker stones and rocks are susceptible to scratches and stains while spots of sunlight can cause affected areas to develop white spots.
- Lighter stones and rocks, when in prolonged contact with a wet surface, can produce a phenomenon of efflorescence caused by evaporating water. The formed crystals tend to disappear once the floor is dry but the drying process can take months. In this case, please avoid exposure to a wet surface as much as possible.
TRAVERTINE
Please clean using a cotton cloth with diluted lukewarm water and alcohol.

Ceramics and Porcelain
GLAZED PORCELAIN
Glazed Porcelain can be cleaned in a dishwasher but only on a gentle setting and only if the machine is carefully filled. It is recommended that detergent be applied sparingly. Take particular care with the placing of the handles when filling the dishwasher.
Pieces from historic and very valuable services should be washed separately in hand-warm water with a soft sponge and dried as soon as possible or lime scale can appear.
BISCUIT PORCELAIN
Biscuit Porcelain can be maintained with soap and water while obstinate dirt can be removed with cleaning solvent.
CERAMIC
Use a soft cloth with warm water and dry immediately.
General Reminders
- When transporting, always carry from the base and rest gently back into place.
- Avoid contact with heavy or sharp objects and application of excessive force.
- It is highly recommended that side tables are never to be used as a stool.
- All ceramic finishes are sensitive to heat and water. Always use a coaster or protective barrier to prevent stains or rings.
Metals
ANTIQUE BRONZE
Antique Bronze can be maintained with warm water using a soft cloth and pat dry immediately. If required, use a non-abrasive detergent diluted with warm water and dry immediately as well.
POLISHED BRONZE
Polished Bronzecan be maintained with warm water using a soft cloth and pat dry immediately. If required, use a non-abrasive detergent diluted with warm water and dry immediately. Routine maintenance helps to retain the desired appearance. Any darkening or black spotting is a natural occurrence of oxidization.
BRASS
Dust regularly with a soft cloth.
After dusting, soak a cotton cloth in diluted warm water and non-abrasive household dish detergent. Wring it well, to the point of barely moist, and gently clean the surface. Once clean, take another clean, slightly damp cloth to remove residual soap. Dry your piece well.
Regular maintenance is required to maintain its lustre.
COPPER
Copper needs to be maintained with a soft, dry cloth. When coming into contact with heat or moisture, like fingerprints, it can cause stains if not wiped right after.
It is meant to slowly and naturally develop an attractive patina and regular polishing will prevent this if original lustre is preferred.
POWDER-COATED STEEL
Powder-coated Steel can be cleaned with lukewarm water and if needed, a mild soap. In cases of strong soiling, stainless steel cleaner is useful. Make sure to wipe away any cleaning agents thoroughly. Never use caustic cleaners and use only soft, non-abrasive cloths for cleaning. A glass cleaning agent or diluted alcohol (1 part to 10 parts water) is suitable for heavier cleaning needs.
ALUMINUM
Aluminum can be cleaned with lukewarm water and if needed, a mild soap.
SATIN BRONZE
Satin Bronzecan be maintained with warm water using a soft cloth and pat dry immediately. If required, use a non-abrasive detergent diluted with warm water and dry immediately. Routine maintenance helps to retain the desired appearance. Any darkening or black spotting is a natural occurrence of oxidization.
LACQUERED BRONZE
Lacquered Bronzecan be maintained with warm water using a soft cloth and pat dry immediately. If required, use a non-abrasive detergent diluted with warm water and dry immediately. As it is especially susceptible to scratching and abrasion, take extra care when coming into contact. Once the surface has been penetrated, oxidization can occur unevenly and it cannot be simply covered up or sprayed over.
CHROME
Chrome can occasionally be freshened up using a polish made specifically for this. A high shine can be achieved by rubbing the chrome afterward with a soft, dry cloth.
Chrome surfaces are galvanized and can crack or splinter on impact. Please ensure to protect from friction or bumping.
NICKEL
Nickel can be polished using a microfibre cloth. Strongly tarnished surfaces can be treated with silver polish or a silver cleaning cloth. Oxidization over time is a desired effect giving the product a lovely patina.
Nickel surfaces are galvanized and can crack or splinter on impact. Please ensure to protect from friction or bumping.
STAINLESS STEEL
Stainless Steel can be cleaned with lukewarm water and if needed, a mild soap.
Woods
VARNISH FINISHED
Use only a soft, damp cloth to wipe off furniture. Dry cloths can cause scratching due to small dust particles.
Remove any dirt or spilled liquids without delay as these can penetrate the tiny pores leading to permanent staining.
General Reminders
- High gloss varnished pieces are polished and despite their hardness, may be vulnerable to signs of wear. Therefore, avoid contact with rough surfaces, grains of sand and pointy or sharp-edged metal objects.
- Avoid alcohol cleaners as these can cause tensions and cracks.
LACQUERED WOOD
Lacquered wood requires regular dusting or a daily wipe with a dry cloth as they are vulnerable to moisture and prone to staining.
We recommend wiping up any spilled liquids immediately; use a cloth to wipe down the wood and only in the direction of the grain. Do not let stains dry up. Never use caustic, abrasive, aggressive cleaning agents or polishes containing silicones.
Alternatively, use a Scotch Brite scouring pad if possible and always ensure to scour the damaged surface lightly in the direction of the grain and where possible, scour the entire surface to prevent any variation.
The application of oil occasionally on oiled wood also protects the table from fluids soaking into it. The oil helps to seal the grain by closing the pores to prevent dirt from penetrating and also helps to maintain its shine. Please note that the more oil applied, the darker the colour will be and where absorbed can also affect the smoothness of the surface.
General Reminders
- Direct sunlight will affect the colour of the wood. If possible, expose the piece to light in a uniform manner. Do not leave objects such as books or trays on a surface that is exposed to the sun for too long as it may produce undesired patterns and outlines.
- Too much heat can dry the wood and cause it to crack. Do not place too close to a heat source.
- Do not operate laptops and desktop computers on the surface on a continuous basis. It is advisable to use an insulating mat.
- Constant atmospheric humidity (50 to 60 percent) and a temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius is beneficial and especially important for solid wood. A humidifier helps with ambient air that is too dry, especially during winter. Be cautious of the temperature and humidity, whether too low or high, as it will cause shrinkage or expansion.
- Avoid the usage of microfiber cloths and fat-dissolving cleaning agents.
WAXED WOOD
Waxed Wood can be dusted or wiped with water and vegetable soap using a damp, white cotton cloth. After drying, polish with a lint-free cloth. Always immediately remove any liquid.
For heavy soiling, apply wax balsam cleaner with a polishing fleece and rub off. Reconditioning of the waxed finish can be done at your discretion as well with beeswax care emulsion.
General Reminders
- Direct sunlight will affect the colour of the wood. If possible, expose the piece to light in a uniform manner. Do not leave objects such as books or trays on a surface that is exposed to the sun for too long as it may produce undesired patterns and outlines.

ULTRA MATTE VARNISHED WOOD
Ultra Matte Varnished Woodneed only to be wiped with a dry cloth as the varnish layer protects the wood against minor stains, moisture and heat. Spilled liquids are to be removed within 25-30 minutes from the surface with a dry cotton cloth. Stains, grease or otherwise, need to be removed with a cloth and light suds but ensure to wipe the surface dry using a cotton cloth. All methods above, when used, must be worked in the direction of the wood grain.
Never use wax, wax-containing agents or abrasive agents.

BRAZILIAN WOOD
Clean the wood only with a cloth that is soft, clean and only very lightly moistened with room temperature water.
General Reminders
- Do not use chemical products such as waxes, oils or furniture polishes.
- Direct exposure to the sun and some artificial light may cause pieces to warp. We suggest periodic movement of objects on the surface.
- Do not leave furniture near appliances that emit heat or air conditioning as the adjustment in humidity causes excessive drying leading to shrinkage, displacements or cracks.
- Avoid placement of pointed or texturized objects as they can leave marks.
- Climatic changes may cause the expansion and contraction of the wood, thus, millimetric cracks are to be expected and do not affect the structural integrity of the piece.
- Freijo wood may present small dark specks. This is a normal characteristic of the wood and is not considered a defect.
- Freijo and Sucupira wood, specifically, require regular cleaning of dust and dirt as they have more open pores and can easily stain.
OILED WOOD
Oiled Wood requires regular dusting or a daily wipe with a dry cloth as they are vulnerable to moisture and prone to staining.
We recommend wiping up any spilled liquids immediately; use a cloth to wipe down the wood and only in the direction of the grain. Do not let stains dry up. Never use caustic, abrasive, aggressive cleaning agents or polishes containing silicones.

CANE
Both sides of the cane should be regularly wiped off with a damp cloth in order to preserve its elasticity – this is particularly important in dry or air-conditioned rooms.
Loose fibres can be reattached with glue.
Soiled areas can be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap.
General Reminders
- Strong, pointed pressure and contact with sharp objects must be avoided.
PARCHMENT
It is strongly recommended to take all necessary measures to prevent the parchment from becoming wet and avoid completely the use of cleaning agents. If needed to maintain, please do so only with a dry, soft cloth and regular dusting is beneficial.
Fabrics and Leathers
LEATHER
Use a soft cloth to dust and if needed, vacuum with a soft brush attachment only.
General Reminders
- Liquids should be removed immediately with a damp, lint-free cloth. A mild soap can be used on very soiled areas and wiped dry with a wool cloth. If applying water as a mixture, ensure to use cooled boiled or distilled water as tap water can cause markings. During application, do not apply excessive force on the affected area but gently pat down instead.
- If you choose to use a leather care product of your choice, please use it sparingly and no more than twice a year as overuse can cause damage.
- Never use detergents, ether, shoe cream, alkaline, strong solution or chemical cleaning products.
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight as it can dry out the leather.
- Be wary of dye transfer onto the surface while wearing darkwash clothing or jeans.
- Be cautious of sharp objects (ie. Bracelets, rings, wristwatches, buckles, belts, zips and rivets) as well as the claws and beaks of pets.
- It is preferable to maintain a humidity level of 45 to 55 percent with temperature levels between 1821 degrees Celsius to avoid drying out the leather or causing the foam to alter.
WOOL
Wool can be maintained with a vacuum at half-power and a soft brush attachment. Though it is water-repellant, it should nonetheless be removed without delay. Take care to never saturate the wool. Most spots can be removed with a cloth, warm water with mild soap if necessary. The fibres will slightly rise when moist and the area will appear as a darker stain. It is possible to prevent discoloration by spraying water lightly over the entire piece and continued use at normal humidity levels will allow the fibres to rise and potential stains to be less visible.
General Reminders
- Never use any undiluted cleaning agents, bleaching agents, ammonia or soap.
- Never place furniture in direct sunlight as this can cause discoloration.
- Avoid strong rubbing during application as it can cause friction marks.
- Be wary of dye transfer onto the surface while wearing darkwash clothing or jeans.
VELOUR
Velour should be brushed with a soft brush and/or vacuumed with the nozzle but always in the direction of the nap. To treat pressure marks, place a damp cloth on the area or spray with clean water lightly until the surface is moist but not wet. When moist, brush with a soft brush for the nap to rise again to its original state and let it dry overnight only where needed, it can be dried with a hair dryer from different directions. In order to avoid shading, treat the entire surface accordingly.
RUGS
Fluff is to be expected with new rugs as it is excess fibres not incorporated into the yarn during spinning. It is best to vacuum at first and after some time, the fluff will lessen and eventually cease. Everyday stains and spillages can be treated by mopping up the area and using a solution of soft soap with warm water if required. General Reminders
- Only the best dyes are used to offer resistance to fading. However, no dyes are completely impervious and over time, any material left in strong sunlight can fade. The best way to mitigate this is to turn the rug from time to time so that at least any fade is even.
- With any hand-knotted rugs, the loom on the initial pile is significantly longer before being sheared down. Occasionally, some longer threads are not cut and become embedded. Over time, these threads can protrude and should be carefully cut down with sharp scissors.
- In the instance that an individual knot has missed the warp or weft and therefore comes undone, it is best to gently pull it out. As each knot is separate, the rug will not unravel and surrounding knots will fill the space. If the thread does not come out easily, it should be carefully trimmed.
COTTON
Cotton can be maintained with a vacuum at half-power and a soft brush attachment. It is more high-maintenance as liquids penetrate easily and is also vulnerable to dirt. Regular maintenance and cleaning removes dirt before it settles into the fabric damaging the fibres. Most spots can be removed with a cloth, warm water and mild soap if necessary. Please follow the following to prevent stain formation or in case of spills: First, scrape off any liquids or hardened residues with a spoon or a scoop. Any loose particles must be vacuum-cleaned before further cleaning. Liquids must be absorbed with an absorbent napkin or cloth. Remove non-greasy stains by carefully dabbing with a lint-free cloth or sponge wrung out in warm water. Edge marks can be avoided by dabbing gently in circular motions towards the centre of the stain. Make sure to dry the fabric fully before use. It may also be necessary to use a hairdryer to avoid leaving edge marks (this applies especially to microfibre textiles).
MOHAIR
Mohair should be brushed with a soft brush and/or vacuumed with the nozzle but always in the direction of the nap.
VELVET
Velvet can maintain its velvet aspect by gently brushing the surface with a dry Scotch-Brite sponge (or similar) in circular motions to keep the fibrous structure open. For any stubborn fibres, a vacuum at reduced power with a soft brush attachment can be used.
- Be cautious of sharp objects (ie. Bracelets, rings, wristwatches, buckles, belts, zips and rivets) as well as the claws and beaks of pets.
CORD
Cord chairs can be cleaned with a damp soft cloth. Use soapy, lukewarm water to wipe stains and rinse clean.
General Reminders
- Do not use cleansers, chemicals or other abrasive materials.
- Avoid lifting the chair by the cord.
- Should the cording become loose, simply redistribute the cord back through the rest of the seat and sit back. Starting at the top of the seat back or back of the seat, simply pull the cord from the middle of each row working your way to the bottom or front of the chair. Once complete, strum the cording again from top to bottom or back to front a few times and this will equalize the distance between the rows of cords.
Outdoor
OUTDOOR FURNITURE
Aluminum, Powdercoated Stainless Steel, Synthetics, Batyline, Canax, Tricord, Textilene Straps, Ceramic and Granite are easy to clean with clear water and a pH-neutral fluid detergent. If necessary, use a soft brush to remove the dirt.
- Do not use acid, alkaline, or chlorinated products on the Batyline and Textilene material.
- Do not use aggressive detergents on Granite as they attack the lime in the stone.
Stainless Steel can be protected from rust with regular cleaning (every 4-6 weeks) using a neutral detergent and clear water. If the furniture is placed under a covered terrace or dirt is not washed away regularly by rain, we recommend rinsing with a garden hose every 2 weeks. Do not use acid, alkaline, or chlorinated products.
Teak is virtually maintenance-free.
- New teak can experience natural oil surfacing that appears like a ‘watermark’ or irregular pattern of discoloration. These areas are part of the natural maturing process.
- Over time, teak furniture exposed to sun and rain will turn silver-grey. This process is cosmetic and does not affect the strength or quality of the wood.
- Oil surfacing is a natural repeating process that cannot be prevented. If you find any of the fabrics stained by this natural teak oil, it can be cleaned with soap and water or a special eucalyptus-based cleaner.
- Avoid the application of varnish or oil (especially linseed oil) as it can cause peeling and chipping. Oiling can often result in mould and mildew and in order to remove this, washing with bleach and soap followed by sanding is required.
Tosca Weave can be rinsed regularly with clean water for local stains. Always rinse with clean water after any treatments and allow to dry naturally.
Concrete can be cleaned with a soft clean cloth soaked in a solution of warm, clear water mixed with pH-neutral fluid detergent. Rinse thoroughly and let dry.
- Stains need to be removed immediately, especially oily stains.
- Do not use corrosive or acidic detergents.
- To restore the original shine, we recommend treating it with protective wax after cleaning using a clean, soft cloth.
Outdoor Rugs can be vacuumed regularly to remove loose dirt. Clean with a garden hose or a high-pressure cleaner if needed.
