The Next Generation of Murano Glass

Murano glass, renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship, originates from the Venetian Island of Murano in Italy. The tradition of glassmaking on Murano dates back to the 13th century when artisans were moved to the island to prevent the risk of fires in Venice and to protect the secrets of their craft. The factories in Murano became centers of innovation and artistry, producing glass of unparalleled quality and beauty.

Italian creative duo Edoardo Pandolfo and Francesco Palù started experimenting with the possibilities of Murano glass eight years ago and are redefining Murano glassmaking by integrating traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics.

The pair set out to champion a new generation of Murano glassmaking, collaborating with various artisans from the region. “The idea behind 6:AM Glassworks is not to have one production company but to tap into a whole network of artisanship near Venice,” Pandolfo says. “There are hundreds of artisans, and each has their technique.”

The secrets of Murano glassmaking are closely guarded and passed down through generations within the island's glassmaking families. These secrets encompass the specific techniques, recipes for glass composition, and the intricate processes that give Murano glass its unique qualities. The preservation of these secrets is one of the key reasons Murano glass remains so distinctive and revered.

Through their work, 6:AM aspires towards continuous innovation and research. The brand’s foundation has quickly seen an evocative anthology of cast glass lighting, glassware, wall systems and sculptural objects, architectural installations and a consulting arm that works with brands to facilitate bespoke glass product creation.
